New Viz Licenses

July 19, 2011

I’m sure these will be announced in the coming days at SDCC, but they’re already up on simonandschuster.biz, so I thought I’d share the fun and excitement. The following are new licenses and as they haven’t been announced they could be incorrect, but I’m not sure that a series has even been leaked and then not announced/released.

A Devil and Her Love Song, by: Miyoshi Tomori
volume 1 February 2012
volume 2 April 2012
I’m personally pretty excited about this series (Akuma to Love Song in Japanese)! It’s been on my wishlist for a while now, because the art is gorgeous and I’ve read lots of lovely things about it. (Also, this one seems pretty definite, as the first volume already has English cover art released.)

The Earl and The Fairy, story by: Mizue Tani, manga by: Ayuko
volume 1 March 2012
Known as Hakushaku to Yosei in Japan, this one is a kind of interesting pick-up for me, as it’s got a pretty strange release schedule in Japan. The manga is based on a light novel of the same name, which also has an anime adaptation (which I remember as not having very good reviews).

The Navidad Incident: The Downfall of Matías Guili, by: Natsuki Ikezawa
March 2012
I’m guessing this will be part of the Haikasoru line, as it appears to be a novel. According to the author’s site, the novel has won an award and is already translated into German. I’m sure it will be an awesome addition to the already amazing Haikasoru lineup.

Bleach MASKED: Official Character Book 2, by: Tite Kubo
March 2012
Feel free to correct me if this has already been announced, I don’t really keep up with most shonen announcements. I’m sure this will please the Bleach fans though!

Also of interest are 3-in-1 editions of Hana-Kimi and Skip Beat!, and the (I believe) previously announced Voltron books. There is also a book titled, The Future is Japanese: Stories From and About the Land of the Rising Sun with no listed author for May 2012.

Looking forward to that 3 in 1 Hana-Kimi deal (Y U NO RE-RELEASE OLDER OOP TITLES IN THAT FORMAT VIZ – like Please Save My Planet, Basara, etc. – I joined too late in the fandom to get these & they cost a shit ton on eBay ;A:)

Devil and Her Love Song looks impressive ~

BTW – Do you know if the 3 in 1 deal is only for the first 3 volumes (like TP did with Kare Kano, Chronicles of the Cursed Sword, etc.) or will it be for all of the volumes in the series?

I’m not sure how many volumes the 3-in-1 will be, but there’s 2 for Hana-Kimi and Skip Beat! listed, but I have a feeling it will be at least 3 or 4 volumes (so 9-12 of the original), like they’ve done with One Piece, Naruto, Bleach, FMA, and Kekkaishi. The listings only went to May, and the second volumes were both in May, so there will likely be more. :] I’m hoping Hana-Kimi will be the whole series, but I’m not sure that it will be (especially since it’s 23 volumes and that doesn’t fit nicely into 3-in-1 volumes, haha). Skip Beat! will probably just be the first couple volumes, since it’s still running.

I can’t wait for A Devil and Her Love Song~ I’ve read the scanalations for a while, although I stopped at one point. (I think it was due to the reduce of time since schoolwork had started to pile up) I think I’ve heard of “The Earl and The Fairy”. Was that an anime a while ago? If not, maybe I’m thinking of something else. I’m hoping some other license wishes could happen, or at least maybe a surprise license.~

Oooooh, A Devil and Her Love Song looks really goooood ;3 hmmm, but I just don’t like how the put the text horizontally…but it looks good and clean[the cover] XD I’m never heard of Miyoshi Tomori…is she good? YAYYYY~Finally omnibus versions of Skip Beat! x] Can’t wait! Oh waittt…this is all in 2012? T_____T My patience is very thin.

@cookiekarin5: I’m super excited for it too~ (random reason? My haircut is basically the same as Maria’s right now, haha.) The Earl and The Fairy was an anime a few years ago. It was alright, but nothing special. It really didn’t get very good reviews in general, which is why I’m kind of curious about why Viz licensed the ongoing manga. I would absolutly love a surprise license~ I’m hoping they announce like one more thing soon, but since this was all they announced at Comic-Con, it’s not looking too likely. :[

@hanakofantasy: From what I’ve seen, it is pretty good~ I think they put it horizontally, since it was horizontal in the original. They seem to be keeping pretty close to the Japanese version lately (which I love~), and this is one of the closest I’ve seen in a long time! I’ve only read a tiny bit of Miyoshi Tomori, but what I’ve seen, I’ve enjoyed. :] I’m excited about the SkipBeat! omnibus too, since I haven’t gotten into the original releases, but would really like to read it. I’d really like to pick up the Hana-Kimi re-releases as well.

Tehee, still happy that Skip Beat is going to get the 3 in 1 treatment :D Also Hana Kimi is something that I would love to read, but buying the volumes now is pretty much impossible because they don’t get restocked anywhere.

Now all I have to do is wait around for the releases…..

Yea! Akuma to Love Song! I really want to see this series and I’m so glad it got licensed. I can mark that one off my list and keep hoping for the others that seem never-ending! I’m sure you know what I mean. :)

But of course~ I have a giant list of things I’d love to see licensed (a lot of which probably never will be, sadly). :]

Aw, I really liked Hakushaku to Yosei (the anime), I want to read the novels one day.
